IEBC Releases First Constituency-verified Presidential Election Results
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has released the first constituency-verified presidential results.
The results for Webuye East Constituency in Bungoma County were read out on Thursday evening by IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati, who is the returning officer for the presidential election.
Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga got 13,720 votes in the constituency while United Democratic Alliance (UDA) flagbearer William Ruto managed 16,412 votes.
Roots Party candidate George Wajackoyah got 249 votes while his Agano Party counterpart David Mwaure received 110 votes.
This is the first of the 290 constituencies whose results the election commission is verifying in its national tallying center at Bomas of Kenya before declaring the final results.
The Chebukati-led commission is racing against time to declare the winner of Tuesday’s presidential election before the August 16th deadline.
