Agano Presidential Candidate David Mwaure Concedes Defeat, Endorses William Ruto
Agano party presidential candidate David Mwaure Waihiga has conceded defeat in the presidential race.
Addressing the media on Sunday, Mwaure said his decision to concede was informed by the low number of votes he has so far garnered as tallying and verification of votes continues at Bomas of Kenya.
"I wish to concede defeat in the presidential elections if 2022 whose verification is ongoing at Bomas. This I am doing after seeing what my performance has been and after discussions with my team in Bomas," he said.
He further endorsed UDA presidential candidate William Ruto, claiming that the outgoing deputy president has maintained a consistent lead in the vote numbers and that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) should declare him the president-elect.
"As we concede we also endorse the winning friend and the person of his Excellency William Ruto and urge IEBC to be fervent in declaring his win when it's time to do so," said Mwaure.
He added: "We agree with him [Ruto] on the need to ensure Kenya remains a God-fearing nation. We also agree with him on his pursuit to ensure freedom of worship for all faith is maintained and his promise to ensure the church and other faith are protected. We also agree with him on his stand on the Christian churches and other faiths' values and values that are accepted by our African cultures."
Mwaure, an attorney and evangelist, thanked his supporters for rallying behind him during the election and urged the election commission to ensure that the ongoing exercise is verifiable and seamless.
