Missing IEBC Official Daniel Musyoka Found Dead
Missing Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) official Daniel Mbolu Musyoka has been discovered dead
Musyoka, who was the Returning Officer for Embakasi East Constituency, went missing on Thursday before he declared the results of the MP and MCA elections at the East Africa School of Aviation Tallying Centre.
His lifeless body was found by herders on Monday night in a river close to the Kilombero forest in Oloitoktok, Kajiado County, according to a police report.
Oloitoktok sub-county police commander Kipruto Ruto said police received reports of an unidentified and badly mutilated body of a male dumped in a river. Ruto said preliminary investigations indicate that the body was likely dumped in the area from somewhere else.
The deceased was positively identified at the Loitokitok sub-county mortuary by his sisters Mary Mwikali and Ann Mboya.
"The body of the deceased, vide my earlier OB no 20/15/08/2022 has been identified as of one Daniel Mbolu Musyoka by his sisters, namely Mary Mwikali and Ann Mboya at Loitokitok sub-county mortuary," the police report says.
IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati said the official was last seen on Thursday morning at the tallying centre where he had been escorted by his bodyguard. He is reported to have excused himself to make a phone call at around 9:45 am but did not return to his workstation.
The 53-year-old joined the electoral commission 13 years ago and had previously served in Loitoktok IEBC offices before he was transferred to Embakasi East before the 2022 general election.
