Wetang’ula to Uhuru: Recognize Ruto’s Victory and We Will Give You International Assignments
Bungoma senator-elect Moses Wetang’ula has urged President Kenyatta to acknowledge William Ruto’s victory in the August 9th presidential election.
Wetang’ula said Kenyatta should break his silence and congratulate the president-elect, promising that the Kenya Kwanza administration will secure him an international job once he hands over power.
"We will give you international assignments to go outside the country and other obligations including overseeing elections in foreign countries as other retired presidents do," said Wetang’ula.
Speaking during a funeral in Kanduyi on Friday, Wetang’ula, who is also party leader of Ford-Kenya, said Kenya Kwanza has agreed not to punish Kenyatta in his retirement for failing to support Ruto’s State House bid.
"Under the law, you have to hand over the reins of power to the president-elect Ruto on 30th of this month and become a civilian with the title of a retired president,” the senator-elect said.
"We as Kenya Kwanza assure you that we shall give you respect as a retired president the way the late president Mwai Kibaki and Daniel Moi were accorded.”
Ruto was declared the winner of the August 9th presidential election after garnering 7,176,141, representing 50.49 percent of the total votes.
His main challenger Raila Odinga of Azimio coalition, who came second with 6,942,930 votes, has rejected the results and promised to file a petition at the Supreme Court.
