Raila: We will Prove Ruto Did Not Win This Election

John Wanjohi Aug 21, 2022

Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga says his lawyers will demonstrate in court that president-elect William Ruto did not win the August 9th election.

Odinga stated that they have sufficient evidence to convince the Supreme Court that the election was rigged in favor of Ruto, who contested under the UDA party.

He was speaking on Sunday when he attended a church service at Jesus Teaching Ministry (JTM) in Donholm, Nairobi in the company of his running mate Martha Karua and other Azimio leaders.

β€œThe victory of the people will not be stolen. The victory of the people will be known because we know it and it will be known starting tomorrow (Monday),” said Odinga.

"There is no doubt in our mind that the Kenyan people spoke loudly on the 9th of August. Their voice won't be muzzled and their victory won't be taken away.”

His sentiments were echoed by Karua and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka who expressed confidence that the apex court will rule in their favor.

"We shall know the truth and it shall set all of us free for without justice there cannot be lasting peace. Justice is the foundation of lasting peace,” Karua said.

Musyoka noted: "We leave this place ready to pursue them and the mandate to pursue them has been ably presented. To Kenyans please stand still and see the salvation of God."

Ruto was declared the winner of the August 9th presidential election after garnering 7,176,141, representing 50.49 percent of the total votes.

Odinga secured 6,942,930 votes (48.85 percent), followed by Roots Party candidate George Wajackoyah (61,969 votes) and David Mwaure (31,987 votes).
