Raila Unveils a 41-Member Legal Team to Challenge Ruto’s Win
Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga has named a team of 41 lawyers who will help him to challenge president-elect William Ruto’s win at the Supreme Court.
Senior Counsel James Orengo will be the lead counsel alongside Senior Counsel Pheroze Nowrojee, Senior Counsel Philip Murgor, and Senior Counsel Okongo Omogeni.
The case management team comprising lawyers Jackson Awele, Julie Soweto, Velma Maumo, Prof. Ben Sihanya, Fred Orego, Dan Maanzo, Tom Macharia will be headed by Raila’s legal adviser Paul Mwangi.
Other lawyers on the team are Tony Moturi, Dr. Judy Oloo, Celestine Opiyo, Arnold Oginga, Barbara Malowa, Addah Awiti, Justus Jura, Leonard Okanda, Plister Omondi, Winnie Makaba, Jerusah Michael, Deborass Bubi, George Ouma, Edward Ambala, Geoffrey Sore, and Naila Salim.
Also in the team are Tabitha Wathuti, John Njomo, Jacqueline Njoroge, Sperenza Nyawira Kinyua, Hannington Amol, Ndegwa Njiiru, Mathews Okoth, Kennedy Wanyanga and Kevin Katisya.
Prof. Makau Mutua, C.N Kihara, Dr. Adams Oloo, and Caesar Wanjau will act as consultants for the team.
“We are pleased that our Presidential Election petition has buoyed the spirits of Kenyans that justice will prevail and that they did not cast their ballots for Azimio in vain,” Raila’s Presidential Campaign Secretariat Spokesperson Makau Mutua said in a statement.
The pre-trial conference for the case is scheduled for August 30th and will be presided over by the seven judges of the Supreme Court led by Chief Justice Martha Koome.
