An Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) clerk was on Wednesday charged for allegedly issuing extra ballot papers to a voter during the August 9th general election.

Pamela Wangui, who was stationed at Kihuhiro Primary School Polling Station in Kieni West Constituency, Nyeri County, was charged with contravention of the Elections Act.

The court heard that Wangui gave one John Maina five stamped presidential ballot papers and an extra-parliamentary ballot paper. Maina was also charged with illegally being in possession of stamped ballot papers at the polling booth.

The two were arrested after the presiding officer raised alarm after noticing that Maina took long at the polling booth.

The two denied the charges before Nyeri Senior Principal Magistrate James Macharia who released them on a cash bail of Sh100,000 each. The case will be mentioned on September 12th.
