Kenyan Media Personality Willis Raburu Undergoes Gastric Bypass Surgery to Lose Weight
Kenyan media personality Willis Raburu has disclosed that he underwent gastric bypass surgery in his bid to lose weight.
Raburu, who has been documenting his weight loss journey for some time, admitted that hitting the gym did not work out despite working with good fitness trainers.
As a result, the Citizen TV presenter says he chose to undergo the Sh900,000 procedure at Nairobi Bariatric Hospital as it offers a long-lasting solution in his quest for fitness.
“I did it at Nairobi Bariatric and enjoying the process,” said Raburu.
He added: “I would like to debunk the fact that weight loss treatment is like almost taboo in this country yet it’s so effective. And insurance companies can help facilitate it, it’s a journey towards a healthier nation.”
The 35-year-old ‘10 over 10′ show host says gastric bypass surgery is more effective as it helps reduce the amount of food that one consumes.
“I respect people who go to the gym, it really is a lot of work. I would lose weight, and at times I would gain some weight so by the time I was going for the surgery I was not doing well,” he said.
Before he went for the surgery, Raburu revealed that he was weighing 164 kilograms, leading to health complications like high blood pressure.
“I used to eat more than six chapattis and visit KFC regularly. But now I don’t eat much. I know this is a lasting solution. My pressure and cholesterol were very high. My health was at stake and I needed to take care of myself before it was too late,” he said.
Gastric bypass is a type of weight-loss surgery that involves creating a small pouch from the stomach and connecting the newly created pouch directly to the small intestine.
