Kenya Inspector-General of Police Hilary Mutyambai Takes a Medical Leave
Inspector-General of Police Hilary Mutyambai has taken a break from his official duties due to personal health matters.
In a statement on Friday, Mutyambai said he will be away on a sick leave effective from Friday and will undergo medical checkup during the period.
He further announced that Deputy Inspector General in charge of the Administration Police Service Noor Gabow will take over as acting IG while he is away.
“This is to inform the general public that I will be away from office attending to a medical checkup effective today, 26th August 2022,” read the statement.
“In my absence, Mr. Noor Gabow, the Deputy Inspector General - Administration Police Service, will act as the Inspector General of the National Police Service until my return.”
In October last year, the National Police Service (NPS) dismissed reports that Mutyambai was admitted to hospital after collapsing, stating that he was “healthy and on duty.”
“Contrary to social media speculation through a post by Opera.News that Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai is unwell, NPS wishes to clarify and assure Kenyans that the IG is fine, healthy and on duty,” the statement read.
“Such reckless, malicious, and unverified reporting should be ignored with contempt.”
