Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga says he spoke to United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres about Kenya's disputed presidential election.

Odinga says Guterres called him two days ago where they talked about the recent developments in Kenya, including the outcome of the August 9th presidential election.

“Two days ago, I got a phone call from the secretary general of UN, Mr Guterres. He called me and talked to me about developments in our country and the region generally,” said Odinga.

He added: “I briefed him about what has happened in our country, the outcome of the election and the processes we have initiated to get a satisfactory solution to this problem.”

Raila said Guterres was happy with the conduct of Kenyans during the electioneering period despite the challenges.

“I assured him Kenya’s democracy is mature and we are determined to pursue legal and constitutional means to resolve the dispute following attempts by the IEBC to hijack our victory,” he said.

Odinga spoke on Saturday at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation offices at Upper Hill, Nairobi, following a meeting with the Azimio election board to assess the election.

He expressed confidence that his petition at the supreme court challenging the results of the presidential election will be successful.

“We have sent a petition to the Supreme Court and are eagerly awaiting the outcome,” he said.
