Ruto Sworn in as Kenya’s Fifth President

William Ruto has been sworn in as Kenya’s fifth President, officially taking over from his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta.

Ruto, 55, took the Oath of Allegiance and the Oath of Execution of the Office of the President, which was administered by Chief Registrar of Judiciary Anne Amadi at 12.45 p.m.

The oath was administered in the presence of Chief Justice Martha Koome and Attorney-General Paul Kihara Kariuki.

First Lady Rachael Ruto stood by her husband’s side as he took the oath.

Ruto took the oath of office at a packed 60,000-seater Kasarani, witnessed by more than 20 Heads of State and Governments.
