Raila Claims Foreign Powers and Multinationals Rigged Him Out
ODM leader Raila Odinga has claimed that foreign powers influenced the outcome of the August 9th presidential election, which was won by President Ruto.
Odinga, who contested the election under the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party, said foreign powers and multinationals with vested interests in the country played a role in his defeat. He alleged that the “African right-wing” conspired with “the international monopoly capital” to influence the outcome of the election.
“What we had was a coup d’état. You even saw the chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission run to announce the results as some of his commissioners denounced the outcome, yet he was celebrated as a hero. They cannot allow that to happen anywhere else in Africa,” Odinga said as quoted by Nation.
“The international community could not condemn Mr Chebukati's actions because they knew what had happened. The African right-wing has always been in conspiracy with the international monopoly capital since independence and Kenyans must be prepared to further sacrifice to win this struggle.”
Odinga was speaking on Thursday evening during the launch of a book published by ODM executive director Oduor Ong’wen at the National Museum of Kenya. He was the chief guest at the event.
His claims were backed Ong’wen, who pointed out that the Azimio coalition lost the election because of "vested interests by the international community".
“Our election was not stolen by Kenya. It was an international conspiracy...They long knew what they wanted and that was that they did not want another Magufuli in Africa,” said Ong’wen.
Ruto was declared the winner of the August 9th presidential election after garnering 7,176,141, representing 50.49 percent of the total votes.
Odinga secured 6,942,930 votes (48.85 percent), followed by Roots Party candidate George Wajackoyah (61,969 votes) and David Mwaure of Agano Party (31,987 votes).
