Cohen’s Widow Wairimu Demands Release of Her Sh400 Million Matrimonial Home, Porsche Cayenne and Pet Dog
Sarah Wairimu, the widow of slain Dutch tycoon Tob Cohen, has demanded the release of her matrimonial property following the withdraw of the case where she was accused of killing the businessman.
On Tuesday, High Court judge Daniel Ogembo granted an application by the Director of Public Prosecutions to drop the murder charges against Wairimu and her co-accused Peter Karanja.
The ruling paves way for registration of a judicial inquest at the chief magistrate’s court in Nairobi to establish the cause and circumstances leading to the death of Cohen, whose decomposing body was discovered in an underground water tank at his home compound in Kitisuru in September 2019.
Through her attorney Philip Murgor, Wairimu demanded back her Sh400 million matrimonial home in Kitisuru, which has been under the control of police since July 2019 over allegations that it is a scene of crime.
She also wants her car, a Porsche Cayenne, her passport, and her pet dog, which is being kept at the Kenya Society for the Protection and Care of Animals (KSPCA) in Karen.
“Sarah was in possession of her matrimonially co-owned home by the time of her arrest, so the law is clear, release the property to her together with all her contents, release her passport, release her pet dog,” her lawyer Murgor said.
“[Former] DCI Kinoti has held Wairimu’s matrimonial home as a crime scene for three years to provide an advantage to the siblings of Tob Cohen who also claim the same property on grounds of a disputed Will which a reputable examiner has found to be forged,” he added.
Wairimu said she is looking forward to the inquest filed by the DPP on Cohen's murder, adding that she will seek compensation from those responsible of destroying her property.
“I have seen my in-laws attacking me like I did not exist. I have known my husband since I was 23 and you cannot tell me I did not exist, you can’t say we did not have a life together,” said Wairimu. “Avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath for it is written, vengeance is mine I will repay, says the Lord.”
