Attorney-General Muturi Proposes Singing of Anti-Corruption Anthem to Curb Graft
Attorney-General Justin Muturi has proposed that the anti-corruption anthem be sung alongside the national anthem and the East African Community (EAC) anthem.
Muturi argued that Kenyans needed to be reminded constantly of the main problem ailing the country, hailing the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) anthem as a great song that can help curb corruption.
"In order to do this we must apparently be reminded every hour, every day just like we say the Lord's prayer. So am saying this because there was a very nice song. I don't know why I have never heard it before but when I heard it I wondered why don't we have it. The anti-corruption song," Muturi said.
Speaking during the commemoration of International Anti-Corruption Day 2022 at the Kenya School of Government on Friday, the attorney-general said there were many functions where the national anthem and the EAC anthem are sung, and it would be prudent if the EACC anthem is included too.
"We have so many functions that we are invited and we attend. We only do the national anthem and the EAC anthem. I think I would propose those of us in clip to have this (EACC anthem) included," he added.
Muturi, a former National Assembly Speaker, further called for transparency in the way the government procures public services.
"If we can cure even 50% of the malpractices in the procurement of goods and services in the public, we will be on our way to save this country so much resources," he said.
