President Ruto's Allies Among Directors Elected to Kenya Power Board

John Wanjohi Dec 18, 2022

President Ruto’s allies are among the persons elected to the Board of Directors of Kenya Power in an election that saw a number of board members kicked out.

Seven new directors were elected during the State-controlled power distributor's Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Friday.

The new members include Veska Kangogo, Duncan Ojwang, Albert Njagi, Logan Hambrick, Joy Brenda Masinde, Energy Principal Secretary, Andrew Kamaua, and Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung'u.

Kangogo, a former County Executive Committee (CEC) member in the Nairobi county government, unsuccessfully sought the UDA ticket to run for Uasin Gishu governor.

Masinde, Ojwang, and Hambrick played a key role in Ruto’s presidential campaigns. Masinde and Ojwang also served as members of the UDA nominations and elections dispute resolution committee.

Lambrick, who was part of Ruto’s ICC legal team, was instrumental in UDA as part of the lawyers advising the party. The American moved to Kenya permanently after the ICC case.

The previous board members who were seeking re-election include Aaron Ringera, Sarah Mbwaya and James Gitiba.

Kairo Thuo and Humphrey Muhu were retained as board members by virtue of being members of the Board Audit Committee and will continue to serve there.
