Family of Actor Gibson Gathu Appeals for Help to Offset Sh8.9 Million Hospital Bill

John Wanjohi Dec 27, 2022

The family of the late veteran Kenyan actor Gibson Gathu Mbugua is appealing for help to offset a Sh8.9 million hospital bill in order to give him a befitting send-off.

Gathu, who starred as ‘prosecutor’ in the long-running TV courtroom drama series Vioja Mahakamani, died on Thursday after a long illness.

The family said the thespian developed breathing complications in September, just weeks after he underwent a kidney transplant at Mediheal Hospital in Eldoret. Gathu, who has been battling diabetes for more than 20 years, suffered kidney failure in November 2020.

It is reported that the 56-year-old actor was in a coma for three months until his demise early Thursday morning.

In June, well-wishers led by former President Uhuru Kenyatta came to his aid when the actor appealed for over Sh6 million to undergo a kidney transplant. Uhuru donated Sh2 million.

To assist the family, well-wishers can send their contributions via MPesa Paybill number 247247, account number 777626, and Gibson Gathu Mbugua as the account name.

‘Vioja Mahakamani’, one of Kenya’s pioneer comedy series, has been airing for over 25 years on Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC).
