Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has led Kenyans in wishing Azimio leader Raila Odinga a happy birthday as he turned on Saturday.

Kenyatta, who backed Odinga in the 2022 presidential election, described the ODM party leader as his “brother and friend”.

“I would like to take this opportunity in the new year, to wish my brother and friend Raila Odinga a Happy Birthday,” Kenyatta said in a statement.

“May God’s blessings and favour be upon you today and in the years to come.”

Nark Kenya party leader Martha Karua, who was Odinga’s running mate in the last election, also celebrated him as “Kenya’s foremost transformational leader.”

"Happy birthday @RailaOdinga Captain of Azimio and kenya’s foremost transformational leader. May you enjoy many happy returns #HappyBirthdayBABA,” Karua tweeted.

Homabay Governor Gladys Wanga said, “Baba, Rt Hon Raila Odinga, we thank you for your contributions to constitutionalism, devolution, and the fight for a better Kenya and better lives for all Kenyans. Many of us have been and will continue to be inspired by you.”

The Orange Democratic Movement Party also celebrated Odinga for being a selfless leader.

“You remain the most wonderful leader to the world of yesterday, today, and the future. As millions celebrate your birthday today as a special gift to our beloved country, we ask Kenyans to remain focused on rebuilding a united Kenya. Happy Birthday Baba,” ODM tweeted.

Odinga, who unsuccessfully gave his fifth stab at the presidency last year, on Friday dismissed calls to retire from politics, saying Kenyans want him to continue serving the country.
