Dedan Kimathi’s Widow Discharged After President Ruto Clears Sh1 Million Hospital Bill
Mukami Kimathi, the widow of Kenyan freedom fighter Dedan Kimathi has finally been discharged from Nairobi Hospital.
This comes after President Ruto settled the Sh1,045,883 medical bill that made the health facility detain her.
On Sunday evening, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua visited her at the hospital and confirmed that the president cleared the bill.
"H.E President @WilliamsRuto has cleared the Hospital Bill; Thank you, President William Ruto, for coming through for Mukami Kimathi and her family. You are a true and genuine friend of our people," he Tweeted.
Kimathi’s family had earlier appealed for assistance from Kenyans of goodwill after Mukami was detained at the hospital until the bill is cleared.
Mukami, 101, was reportedly admitted to the facility on January 5th with pneumonia symptoms and was treated and discharged on January 12th.
But she was not allowed to leave the facility as the family was unable to offset the hospital bill, which had accumulated to Sh1,045,883.
“We are calling out on Kenyans of goodwill to come to our aid. We are helpless as we cannot afford the medical bill,” Kimathi’s daughter Miriam told The Standard.
