Raila to President Ruto: Accept You Lost and Leave State House to Me

John Wanjohi Jan 29, 2023

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga insists that the 2022 presidential election was rigged in President Ruto’s favor.

Speaking at Jesus Teaching Ministry in Donholm, Nairobi on Sunday, Odinga said Ruto should accept that he lost the election and step down for him.

“Accept that you were defeated in the election, leave State House for Baba to get in. We are speaking the truth, we do not want war, and we do not want threats. We have our rights as Kenyans, and it cannot be snatched by a hawk, Kenyans deserve a leader that they elected,” said Odinga.

The ODM party leader further dismissed the move by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to investigate claims of rigging in the 2022 election, saying the truth can only be known if they are allowed to scrutinize IEBC servers.

“I have seen DCI (Mohamed Amin) saying he wants to conduct an investigation. DCI, you are an employee of Ruto, you cannot conduct investigations,” he stated.

In a statement, DCI director Amin Mohamed said he is privy to complaints alleging that there is an "official" copy of the presidential results to justify rigging claims.

"Illustratively, they have pointed out various alleged irregularities including glaring inconsistencies in the watermarks featured in the forms labeled as 34B and which are being passed off as documents emanating from IEBC," Amin noted.

Amin said detectives are investigating the validity and authenticity of the documents in question and whether offenses relating to forgery and falsification of documents have been committed under Sections 345-348 of the Penal Code.

The DCI requested IEBC to present their certified Forms 34B used in declaring the presidential results to the DCI headquarters to aid in the probe.

"For the purpose of lawfully processing the complaints referred above in line with our mandate, we hereby request that you furnish us with the certified copies of Forms 34B that were used to tally, verify and declare the result of the presidential elections of 9th August 2022," he added.
