John Wanjohi Feb 11, 2023

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta and Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga are among the mourners who attended former Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha’s burial in Siaya on Saturday.

Kenyatta, who left office last year, received a warm welcome as crowds cheered when he arrived at the Odera Akang'o campus in Yala for Magoha’s burial ceremony.

In his opening remarks, Kenyatta recognized Odinga as his friend, brother, and his party leader, promising to be there for him if he runs for office again.

“I am not looking for any seat, but if Raila looks for one, I will be there for him,” said Kenyatta, who is the Chairman of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party.

Kenyatta praised Prof. Magoha for restoring sanity and quality in the country's education system

“At the time the country was facing numerous cases of exam cheating, I was convinced that he was the right person to deal with the vice after I saw his contribution in transforming the University of Nairobi,” he said.

He added that Magoha will be remembered for his role in the attainment of the 100 percent transition from primary to secondary schools.

“The Kenyan curriculum that he took keen interest to develop is also being emulated in Malawi and Zambia, among other countries,” he said.
