John Wanjohi Feb 14, 2023

A senior researcher staff attached to the Senate has died while on official duty in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Wellington Namenge Ogoya, who worked at the Directorate of Parliamentary Research Services, was part of the Senate Energy Committee that had traveled to Dubai on official duty.

Reports indicate that the deceased was unresponsive and did not wake up on Monday.

A forensic report by the Dubai authorities revealed Namenge died of natural causes after he failed to wake up, Senate Clerk Jeremiah Nyegenye said.

“Namenge passed away on February 13th, 2023 while on official duty with the committee on Energy in Dubai,” Nyegenge said.

“He was a principled and patriotic staffer of integrity who was steadfast in his service to parliament and his country. His death is a big loss to the Parliamentary Service and the parliamentary fraternity.”

Kenya’s Ambassador to UAE Kariuki Mugwe said the body of Namenge is already at a Dubai morgue and the consulate is seized of the matter.

“The embassy will handle the matter. The report is out. The cause of death was natural,” he said.

He added “It will take two to three days for the body to be released. The Dubai authorities will handle the entire process and the body shall be released for travel by Thursday.”
