Nairobi Governor Sakaja Urges President Ruto to Hold a Dialogue with Raila
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has urged President Ruto to hold talks with Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga.
Sakaja, who spoke on Sunday, said the country’s economy is bad enough and the ongoing mass action by the opposition coalition will further hurt Kenyans.
“Demonstrations will not help solve any problems. I ask President Ruto to reason with the Azimio coalition to solve this issue. Those advising the president from having talks are misleading him. This does not however mean that we will have a handshake. No one wants that,” said Sakaja.
“There is nothing that we cannot sort out. We are one country, not a country of two people. The president is accommodative and willing to work with the opposition,” he added.
The first-term governor described the president as a wise person but some Kenya Kwanza leaders are misguiding him not to reach out to the opposition.
“I’m glad that the president has a lot of wisdom and I’m sure he will do the right thing because yeye ndio baba yetu lazima atushikilie sisi sote,” Sakaja added.
Sakaja assured Nairobi residents that his administration will protect them and their property in the upcoming planned demonstration.
“When you listen to the people of Nairobi, there is a great concern because of the upcoming demonstrations. I want to assure the people of Nairobi that we shall protect them. When Nairobi stops working the whole country is affected,” Sakaja said.
Opposition leaders have called for nationwide protests over the high cost of living, over taxation, failure to open IEBC servers, attempt by President Ruto to single-handedly appoint the IEBC selection panel, and the victimization of the four IEBC commissioners who rejected the results of the last election.
