Former Chief Government Pathologist Alex Olumbe Dies in Australia

Former Chief Government Pathologist Alex Olumbe has died at the age of 60.

Olumbe passed away on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Brisbane, Australia, a family member told The Standard on Friday.

“He has been ill for some time. We received news of his death two days ago. As a family, we are still waiting for more details from the hospital,” he said.

Close sources to the family confirmed that Olumbe died from colon cancer.

The family is awaiting a postmortem to ascertain the exact cause of death and plans are underway to airlift his body to Kenya for burial. 

“We are at a loss. He was a charming person and a man of few words. We will remember him as a disciplinarian who valued education,” Frank Aunda, the family spokesperson said.

The deceased served as the Chief Government Pathologist from 1998 to 2001 before relocating to Australia to do similar work. He has been living and working in Aussie for over 20 years.

Olumbe also served as Forensic Pathologist Minister in the Health Department from 1993 to 1998. He held a Master’s and a Bachelor of Science in Surgery from the University of Nairobi.
