Lawyer Gibson Kuria Seeks Police Protection After Armed Goons Raid His Karen Home
Senior Counsel Gibson Kuria Kamau is seeking the government’s protection following the invasion of his residential home in Karen, Nairobi by unknown assailants on Friday.
Kuria said he fears for his life and wants Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome to provide security to himself his family and home after the raid.
The attorney said he was handling a client’s case in court when he received communication from his family that a group of rowdy youths armed with machetes stormed his home.
The invaders, who came with building materials including poles, cement and iron sheets, started fencing off part of his one-acre piece of land in Karen.
“We may be the latest of numerous victims of invasions of property which are taking place in the country as described at page 7 of the issue of the Daily Nation of 12th April, even so, under Section 24 of the National Police Service Act, one of the function of the police is to protect life and property” read part of Kuria’s letter to the IG.
“We have a title deed to the property and we have been having our home in this property since 2009, for 14 years, and this is the first time that an invasion of this kind is taking place,” he added.
The intruders said they were sent by a businessman who claimed that a ‘Mzungu’ gifted him the property in a will, according to eyewitnesses. The men were in possession of some documents which looked like a title deed and a will.
It took a neighbor’s intervention for the men to leave the property but they left behind some building materials and promised to come back.
The matter has since been reported to Hardy police station.
