Raila Claims Venezuelan Nationals are in Kenya to Tamper with IEBC Servers
Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga claims that Venezuelan national Jose Carmago jetted into the country to interfere with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) servers.
Odinga alleged that Carmago, whose name featured prominently during the 2022 presidential election petition at the Supreme Court, is accompanied by three other Venezuelans.
Through Twitter on Monday, the ODM party leader claimed the four foreigners met with former IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati and Communications Authority of Kenya Director General Ezra Chiloba.
“We have information that four Venezuelans led by Jose Carmago are in the country to tamper with @IEBCKenya servers. We have information that they have met with CA CEO Ezra Chiloba & the former IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati… they are now at Maasai Mara Lodge,” he tweeted.
In his 2022 presidential petition, Odinga claimed Carmago led a team of Venezuelan nationals who tampered with the election’s results in favor of President Ruto.
Lawyer James Orengo said Camargo and his compatriots Joel Gustavo Rodriguez Garcia and Salvador Javier Sosa Suarez, who had been arrested at JKIA carrying election materials in their luggage, used them to rig in President Ruto.
But IEBC refuted the allegations, saying the three were employees of Smartmatic International B.V., a company contracted to deploy technology during the election.
Odinga has been pushing for the opening of the IEBC servers, insisting that he won the elections with 8.9 million votes.
