Raila Claims State's Involvement in Shakahahola Cult

Martin Olage May 12, 2023

Opposition leader Raila Odinga has said that the government has handled the Shakahola massacre in secrecy which suggests that the government has something fishy to conceal.

The chief Azimio leader Raila Odinga said that when he tried to access the site to witness the exhumation of bodies, the police denied him entry. Raila said that the government should have addressed the issue openly.

“The security officers chased me out saying they did not want witnesses. There is something this government is hiding. An issue of such public interest needs openness,” he said while speaking on Friday at the Anglican Church of Kenya in Gitui, Murang'a County.

The Azimio boss attended the burial service of the mother of Ms Jane Waigwe, the wife to former Muranga governor Mwangi Wa Iria. Raila disagreed with the government for chest-thumping and forcing Kenyans to agree with their improper plans. He added that the 3% housing tax is not empirical since some employees have their own homes while others can afford to get one through their own arrangements.

He slammed the Kenya Kwanza regime for promoting tribalism, further referring to himself as a statesman who believes in nationalism. Mr Odinga further lamented the government's proposal as seen in Finance Bill 2022.

"He is not even consulting. He is coming up with taxes that are a crashing burden to the very lowly placed on whose shoulders he campaigned on," he said.

Mr Odinga's ally Mr Kamau Mweha charged mourners by claiming that the government intends to bar opposition leaders from attending the burial of freedom fighter Mukami Kimathi.
