A 24-year-old woman has been charged in court for locking her parents out of their house in the Marurui area, Kasarani.

The Makadara Law Court has held that the incident which happened on May 8 created a nuisance in a manner likely to provoke an infringement of peace. Faith Mokeira threw household appliances outside while jeering at her father David Nyambane. Mr Nyambane arrived at his home around 8 pm and found her wife outside, upon inquiry, the neighbours reported that his daughter had locked herself indoors.

Attempting to reach a truce, Mr Nyambane pleaded with the daughter to open the door but she held her ground. She responded by taunting her father and even proved her annoyance by throwing household objects at him and the neighbours. The accused reported the matter to the nearby Marurui police post, however, the fresh graduate declined to open the door, forcing her parents to sleep outside.

The next morning, the accused parents presented another report to the police station, prompting police officers to pay a visit to their home. The police used a ladder to scale up the perimeter wall in order to access the compound. Once inside, they noticed that Faith had destroyed glasses and other valuables inside the house. She was later arrested and presented to the police station for questioning where she accused her father of breaching her privacy.

According to Ms Mokeira, her father had instructed an electrician to do repairs in her room without her consent. While appearing at the Makadara Law Courts, the woman denied the charges and was released on Sh4,000 cash bail.
