Ruto is the Next Robert Mugabe: Mutahi Ngunyi

Martin Olage May 19, 2023

Political scientist Mutahi Ngunyi has referred to President William Ruto as the next Robert Mugabe in Africa's political scene.

The political analyst took to Twitter with a tweet that said Ruto is the next Mugabe in African diplomacy. Mutahi said that Ruto's speech while addressing the African Union parliament displayed him as daring. He added that Ruto's hustler ideology reflected the frankness and purity in the political journeys of Sankara, Lumumba, and Nkruma.

"Like him or hate him, Ruto is the next Mugabe in African diplomacy- in a nice way. His Hustler diplomacy reminds me of the frankness and purity of our liberators, Sankara, Lumumba, and Nkruma. May he survive the vice of colonisers," he said.

While speaking at the Pan-African Parliament Summit, Ruto complained that African leaders are denied platforms to address African issues. He added that the West during global summits gives African leaders only a few minutes to address issues. He decried that after speaking for a few minutes, African leaders are arranged for a photo session after which they return back home.

"While we are invited to those summits, we are given limited time, then aligned, all over 50 of us, for photos, and unfortunately that's the only thing we go back home with," he said.

Ruto has reiterated that global summits should engage African leaders on a deeper level and not just parade them for photos and ornate dinner sessions.
