Kanini Kega Expells Kioni, Murathe as Jubilee Power Wrangles Deepen
Acting secretary general Kanini Kega has voiced the ouster of Jubilee secretary general Jeremiah Kioni and vice chair David Murathe.
The party has suspended Kagwe Gichohi who was facing disciplinary action. Speaking on Thursday, Mr Kega announced that the National Delegates Convention championed by embattled secretary general Jeremiah Kioni will not happen on Monday as suggested by Mr Kioni and Murathe. Kanini Kega said the National Executive Council embraced the report of the disciplinary committee on the expulsion of Kioni and Murathe and the suspension of Gichohi.
"There will be no NDC on Monday. The party will advise members on the dates of the NDC after finalising this dispute," he stated.
Kega said the disciplinary team confirmed that Kioni and Murathe were guilty of the charges levied on them. He confirmed the same, stating Kioni and Murathe were guilty of gross misconduct.
The Kega's faction has been battling the Kioni-led team in Jubilee's leadership wrangles. On Thursday, Murathe insisted that the NDC initiated by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta will proceed as planned despite Bomas management denying them entry to the venue. Murathe said Mr Kenyatta will chair the Monday's NDC which will happen at a venue that they will communicate through local dailies.
In a response statement to Kioni's faction push for NDC, Mr Kega said that they will communicate fresh dates for a special NDC.
