Karua Tells off Gaucho for Demeaning Sabina Chege

Martin Olage May 22, 2023

Azimio co-principal Martha Karua has defended Azimio leaders after Bunge la Wananchi President Calvin Okoth alias Gaucho made belittling statements.

While speaking at Jubilee's National Delegates Conference on Monday, Gaucho used demeaning words against Sabina Chege and other leaders. Karua criticized Gaucho for attacking leaders based on their physical appearance. She urged him not to use such words as they would also insult leaders present during the NDC.

"Please stop issuing any criticism or insults that are gender-based because you will insult even those who are here without knowing," she said.

Karua said that the coalition should criticize their rivals based on their work and not looks. She further called on leaders to be respectful when playing politics and steer away from ridicules. Before Gaucho's speech, retired President Uhuru Kenyatta had promised to buy him lunch for appearing at Jubilee's headquarters in April.

"Even you Gaucho next time we meet, I will buy you lunch, don't worry. You came to defend the party's property," Uhuru said.

Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua accused President William Ruto of wrecking havoc in the Jubilee party. She told off leaders who have joined Ruto's camp to relinquish their positions and seek fresh mandate. He added that even former President Daniel Moi respected the rule of law when wooing opposition MPs.

According to Karua, Ruto wants to achieve a super-majority in the National Assembly so that he can amend the constitution to his favor.
