At State House on Friday, June 2, 2023, President William Ruto made a humorous remark while addressing an audience at the Kenya National Drama Festival State concert.

The Head of State said content creators such as Eddie Butita and Timothy Kimani alias Njugush are earning more money than he does. Ruto recognized the influence of the digital world on young people who have embraced content creation. Dr Ruto praised the two famed creators for their success in digital platforms, attributing it to their efforts on YouTube and the opportunities offered by the state.

"Those two young men that you see there, they are making more money than my salary, musiwaone hivi ati wamevaa sijui T-shirt namna gani those guys are serious entrepreneurs," he stated amid laughter from the crowd.

Ruto commended them for setting an example for other young people in the nation. Consequently, he instructed that the ICT and Finance committee postpone any tax on content creators to allow them to settle into their profession.

"I know that there is a proposal in this year's budget on digital content and creators are making a statement. I have told the ICT and Finance committee to work on it. Lets give them a bit more space let us allow them kidogo wajipange lakini baadae si sisi wote tutalipa ushuru," he said.

President William Ruto has affirmed his stance on improving the creative industry in the country. In a statement, the head of state proclaimed that his administration is serious about supporting creatives, terming them as a crucial cog of the economy. He added that his government will install 25,000 free hotspot areas by 2025 to enable the youths to venture and earn from their craft.
