Kenya, Comoros Agree to Abolish Visa Requirements Before the End of 2023

President William Ruto has said that Kenya is making headway in abolishing visa requirements with Comoros before the end of the year. 

On July 6th, during the Union of Comoros' 48th Independence anniversary, President Ruto lauded the strong historical, cultural, and trade ties between the two countries. He said the two countries have worked together to create strong diplomatic relations and advance mutual understanding and collaboration in multiple areas. Ruto highlighted that Kenya is keen on discovering partnership possibilities to boost cooperation in education, healthcare, agriculture and security to elevate the living standard of citizens and build a better-shared future. 

"We must take this commitment to freedom further, and encourage the free movement of people between our countries. On that note, I give you a commitment that Kenya shall abolish the requirement of visas for all persons holding valid travel documents issued by the Union of Comoros into Kenya before the end of 2023," said Ruto. 

He acknowledged the challenges both countries have sustained while striving for self-reliance but highlighted their determination and unity. The president said that the battle for freedom is an obligation that must be passed on to future generations and Kenya is an active partner with Comoros in different undertakings including facilitating people-to-people exchanges, encouraging investment and exchanging knowledge in sustainable tourism practices. He added that it is essential for the two countries to join forces and lead people in seeking out amicable and everlasting solutions, and embrace African solutions to African problems.
