Martin Olage Jul 19, 2023

Azimio leader Raila Odinga's bodyguard Maurice Ogeta has reportedly been abducted by individuals believed to be police officers.

According to ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale, the officers clad in plain clothes are suspected to be from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations. Etale said the officers abducted Ogeta while he was driving to work on Wednesday morning and drove him to an undisclosed location. An official from the police confirmed that Ogeta was among those targeted for arrest and detention.

"Unknown people in plain clothes suspected to be police officers from the DCI have abducted Raila Odinga’s bodyguard Maurice Ogeta while driving to work bundled him in the car boot and driven away with him to an unknown destination. His whereabouts remain unknown," Etale said.

Meanwhile, some Azimio leaders have gone into hiding due to fears of arrest including Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino who was detained upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport upon arrival from Mombasa. Other Members of the County Assembly and activists were also detained overnight under claims of planning anti-government demonstrations.

Reports suggest that a section of leaders from Kenya Kwanza have gone into hiding after discovering that they may be arrested for organizing violent attacks on anti-government protestors. The police in Nairobi are said to be tracking at least five politicians from Kenya Kwanza who have been named in the plot to stop any potential chaos that may occur during the planned protests on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. Intelligence reports have revealed that some politicians are providing money and weapons to goons in order to cause trouble.
