Audit of 2022 Election Results to Top Bipartisan Dialogue Agenda

Both the government and the opposition are prioritizing the reconstitution of the electoral commission, the audit of last year's presidential election, and the delimitation of boundaries in ongoing discussions.

The National Dialogue Committee plans to address constitutional matters such as the cost of living, the two-thirds gender principle, unity, inclusivity, and checks and balances. Political party fidelity, development, affirmative action, and oversight funds are also on the agenda. Lastly, the establishment of the Official Opposition leader and the prime cabinet secretary's office will be addressed.

The NDC has written to the IEBC selection panel to take note of their work as they begin the recruitment of all seven commissioners. Enforcing the principle of gender equality requires a task force committed to diversity. Unfortunately, the announcement that the task force was composed entirely of men has created public outrage. Wiper leader Kalonzo had urged the public to submit their opinions on the task force's five agenda items with a deadline of Friday.

During the one-week hiatus, the technical committee of the NDC will be concentrating on preparing the memoranda and agenda. The break is also influenced by the Africa Climate Summit scheduled to be hosted by Kenya. The public is welcome to present their written and verbal memoranda on the NDC’s five-point list, which coincides with the initiatives of the Building Bridges movement. These points are related to electoral fairness, manifesting pertinent Cabinet positions, and directing boundary allocation, which the courts have identified as a responsibility of the IEBC.

“Article 10 of the Constitution espouses the national values and principles of governance, which include participation of the people. Pursuant to Article 10 of the Constitution, the committee is required to engage with and consider submissions from stakeholders, collate views from the public and engage experts, professionals and other technical resource persons as necessary,” the notice by Kalonzo and Ichung’wa read in part.
