Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has become a trending topic on social media once again.

The Lawmaker recently appeared in a video struggling to explain the significance of the ongoing Africa Climate Summit which began on September 4th at the Kenyatta International Conventional Center in Nairobi. During an interview with local media on Tuesday, Salasya was asked to clarify the event's purpose and the effects of climate change on the nation. Although he attempted to provide a coherent response, his answer was not as clear as he had hoped.

“As we are all aware, it’s that…it’s climate change because you find that, by the way, climate change is real because of global warming. I was in Mombasa last week, and it was so cold. I asked them, what is happening? They told me the sun has become too hot and the ice is melting, and so when it melts, that thing becomes cold,” he said.

The interviewer also inquired about Salasya's efforts to address climate change to which he explained that a lack of funding is preventing his constituents from adopting environmentally friendly energy sources. He highlighted that he represents rural constituents who rely predominantly on firewood for cooking. He added that legislators are advocating for the adoption of alternative options such as jikos and gas. He lamented that his constituents are constrained financially and are unable to immediately embrace the green transition.

He remained optimistic that the government would reduce the cost of these energy sources. Salasya further mentioned that young people in his constituency have developed a funding proposal that he plans to submit at the summit. In the viral clip, a man captured standing on Salasya's left appears to be holding back laughter while the MP answered questions.
