Ruth Odinga: No One is Fit to Fill Raila's Big Shoes, Yet
The Jaramogi Oginga Odinga family has sparked a new discussion on the succession politics of the Luo community.
Ruth Odinga, Raila's younger sister and Kisumu Woman Representative, has defended her brother against critics calling for his retirement from politics. However, this is contrary to the opinion of family spokesperson Oburu Oginga who had suggested that National Assembly Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi would be the best candidate to fill Raila's shoes. Ruth Odinga says that Raila is irreplaceable and calls on other regional leaders to seek his guidance instead of aiming to supplant him politically.
During the Mama County Back to School Programme at Mirogi Boys High School in Homa Bay County on Thursday, Ruth Odinga lauded Raila and underscored his aptitude for leadership, regardless of his failures in five previous bids. She implores him to resist any coercion and pressure, stressing that he possesses all the necessary attributes to lead the country. This event was organized by the Homa Bay Woman Representative Joyce Osogo and the Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga was also present.
During the event, the legislature spoke about the Africa Climate Summit held in Nairobi where Azimio leader Raila Odinga was welcomed by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. She urged the people of Nyanza to support Mr Odinga, saying he has the ability to "free" the Luo community and other Kenyans. Although Dr Oginga had previously praised MP Wandayi, he has since clarified that he cannot name Mr Odinga's successor, saying that he simply acknowledged Wandayi's hard work and potential. Dr Oginga emphasizes that there is no political void to be filled and that Mr Odinga is still in charge.
