Three Dead as Fresh Ethnic Clashes Rock Kisumu-Kericho Border

Fresh ethnic clashes along the Kisumu-Kericho border have resulted in the deaths of three individuals, while numerous others are currently receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained.

The attackers targeted the East Kadiang'a Location in the Upper Nyakach Division, instilling fear among the residents before making their escape. Assistant County Commissioner Darwin Orina has verified the incident, revealing that many individuals are now recovering from wounds caused by arrows and machetes. Police officers are actively attempting to ease tensions in Sondu in light of the violent incident.

According to Orina's report, the violent incident resulted in the tragic deaths of three people. Those who have suffered injuries have been quickly transported to Nyabondo Mission Hospital for urgent treatment. Notably, the attack comes days before President William Ruto's planned visit to the region as part of his developmental tour. Witnesses have reported that the tension began to escalate on Tuesday afternoon, with allegations surfacing that a particular community had convened to premeditate an attack. They have accused the police of neglecting to intervene despite multiple reports.

A Sondu resident, who is currently recovering from arrow wounds sustained in the attack, says that they had alerted the police about the looming attack but received no response. He is convinced that had the police acted promptly since they were informed, the occurrences could have been avoided entirely. While the perpetrators of the attack still remain unidentified, the administrator implies that it could be a retaliation ploy for the suspected involvement of a community member in cattle rustling. Although they provided the police with the crucial information, the administrator remains uncertain about what transpired, as the attackers arrived in great numbers around midnight.
