Kenyan Man Who Killed Wife Was Insecure About Her Social Media Popularity, Court Told

A man who stands accused of killing his wife has been portrayed as an insecure individual who frequently expressed worries about his wife's frequent use of Instagram and other social media platforms.

Murad Awadh stands accused of killing Nuru Ibrahim with two kitchen knives on July 19, 2022 - which happened to be Father's Day. During a recent court hearing presided over by Justice Anne Ong'injo, Said Omar (Nuru's father) testified that Awadh appeared to be insecure about his wife's increasing use of social media. The accused had contacted Omar several times to express his concerns about Nuru's Instagram presence and her followers.

The truck driver who stands accused had been experiencing serious marital problems with his late wife since the early days of their marriage, according to Omar. The couple had six children, but unfortunately one of them died. At one point, Omar received a call warning him of an irate argument between the Awadh and his wife and counselled the former to confront the source of their strife. On that fateful evening, Omar received a call from Awadh, who informed him that Nuru was heading to the police station to obtain a P3 form. Salma Ahmed, a cousin of the deceased, supported Omar's account.

Salma reported to the High Court that the deceased had frequently confided in her about the marriage, conveying her discontent and desire to terminate it. Guided by prosecutor Benard Ngiri, Salma said she had tried to communicate Nuru's discomfort with the marriage. However, the accused has refuted the claims.
