President Ruto Takes a Stand Against Corruption, Urges Swift Approval of Anti-Graft Legislation

President William Ruto has issued a stern warning to ministries and state departments, cautioning them against engaging in corrupt activities.

During his Thursday address to the nation, Ruto stressed the importance of combatting corruption, wastefulness, inefficiency, and negligence, as they undermine Kenya's progress. He urged parliamentarians to swiftly pass the Assets Declaration and Conflict of Interest Bill. He considers enacting the bill a crucial step in strengthening anti-corruption measures and preventing the misappropriation of public funds.

“I ask this honourable House to finalize the Assets Declaration and Conflict of Interest Bill to further tighten our anti-corruption policy framework and eliminate space for those who want to steal our money,” he said.

Ruto also seized the moment to ponder the achievements and hurdles encountered during his leadership, highlighting progress in healthcare, education, infrastructure, security, and agriculture. Acknowledging the struggles endured by Kenyans as a result of the high cost of living living expenses, he vowed to enact further reforms and strategies aimed at improving the well-being of the populace.

Ruto expressed his government's steadfast commitment to the Kenya Kwanza vision, envisioning a thriving, inclusive, and democratic nation. Members of Parliament had varying responses to Ruto's speech, with certain individuals applauding his leadership and achievements, while others voiced their dissatisfaction with his economic stewardship. President William Ruto announced that the efforts made by his Kenya Kwanza government have effectively reduced the price of a 2kg packet of maize flour to Sh145.

The President underscored that the present retail price for the product ranges from Sh145-Sh175, a noteworthy dive from its original Sh250 tag when he assumed leadership.
