Martin Olage Nov 13, 2023

On Monday, Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale criticized Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for allegedly interfering in Western politics.

Khalwale advised the Deputy President against meddling in the sugar sector as it holds great importance for the people of the region. Instead, he proposed that Gachagua concentrate on issues related to Mt Kenya, like the coffee and tea industries, and let politicians from the Western region handle matters concerning the sugar industry. Khalwale lamented that the Deputy President might assume his position gives him the power to meddle in local politics and undermine senior politicians. Additionally, he cautioned Gachagua against attempting to use money to influence political dynamics across various parts of Kenya.

The seasoned lawmaker further highlighted his superior political experience compared to the Deputy President, citing his extensive years as a legislator. Khalwale stressed the significance of respecting their community, which encompasses around 7 million individuals. Lastly, he proudly proclaimed that his academic qualifications surpasses Gachagua's. Khalwale firmly stated that a Luhya candidate will rise to leadership once Ruto retires, regardless of the deputy president's personal preferences.

Khalwale also cautioned against senior leaders exploiting local politics for their own benefit. During his address, Khalwale criticized Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa for allegedly funding troublemakers who assaulted Mumias East MP Peter Salasya on Sunday. Khalwale urged leaders to maintain a respectful and civil approach when addressing the public, highlighting the importance of respecting their colleagues' opinions.
