Political Shockwaves as Uhuru Makes a Surprise Visit to Kalonzo's Home

Martin Olage Nov 19, 2023

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta visited Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka at his residence in Mwingi, Kitui County on Sunday.

Uhuru's visit had a specific objective - to participate in a fundraising event held at the Full Gospel Church in Mwingi. Before joining the Sunday service with the congregation, both leaders had a brief encounter. The specifics of their conversation have not been revealed. Uhuru also interacted with the local leaders who had accompanied Kalonzo for the fundraising event.

The recent stopover in Kalonzo's stronghold has caused quite a stir, considering the former President's tendency to stay out of the public eye since leaving office in September 2022. Since his retirement, he has only emerged a handful of times, with the most recent occurrence taking place on July 28. On that particular day, Uhuru and other Azimio Leaders gathered at the SKM Command Centre in Karen, Nairobi to express their grief for the lives lost during protests.

Meanwhile, during a workshop aimed at strengthening parliamentary action against gender-based violence and modern slavery in supply chains, Moses Wetangula, the Speaker of the National Assembly, called upon parliaments in Commonwealth nations to enact legislation that will effectively combat these issues. Wetangula stressed the significant role that lawmakers play in leading the fight against these destructive practices within member states. The National Assembly speaker delivered these remarks at the Emara-Ole Sereni Hotel on Saturday.
