Martin Olage Dec 10, 2023

President William Ruto has urged young individuals to seize the opportunities presented by a borderless continent.

During the annual Youth Connekt Africa Summit, President Ruto voiced his confidence in Africa's abolishment of visa restrictions and the facilitation of unrestricted movement for both individuals and commodities. The summit, themed "Youth Innovating a Borderless African Renaissance," was hosted at the KICC in Nairobi on Saturday. President Ruto emphasized the importance of constructing a new Africa, founded upon self-confidence, advancement, and effective problem-solving strategies.

The President lauded the current generation for their remarkable talent, inventive spirit, vibrant energy, and strong connectivity. Moreover, he voiced Kenya's unflagging endorsement of the African Continental Free Trade Area, an initiative striving to establish a borderless market for entrepreneurs and enterprises. During his address, the President emphasized that the notion of visas was first introduced by Europe, serving as a reminder to the audience.

The Head of State mentioned Europe as an example of a borderless region with a population of 450 million where 27 countries allow entry without visas. In October, President Ruto called for a shift away from opposing powers of North vs South and East vs West and highlighted the importance of mutually beneficial partnerships, the exchange of technological know-how, and the equitable movement of capital.

The President highlighted the vast opportunities for sustainable development in Africa, lauding Africa's ample resources and thriving young workforce. He remarked that Africa beholds the biggest untapped reusable energy potential as well as the youngest and the fastest developing human capital.

“We have the world’s biggest untapped renewable energy potential. Ours is the youngest and fastest-growing workforce and human capital. Sixty per cent of the world’s best solar potential is in Africa.” he said.
