Martin Olage Dec 18, 2023

The realm of finances and monetary matters often bears witness to peculiar tales and the life of Joseph Ibironke, a 68-year-old Nigerian man, is no exception.

Having departed his native land for the Western world, he came back three decades later without any achievements. In an interview, Joseph Ibironke recounts his journey to the United Kingdom in 1983, driven by the pursuit of better prospects. Abandoning his position at a Nigerian financial institution, he dedicated nine years of his life to working as a security guard in the UK where he underwent specialized training as an armed guard.

However, Ibironke grew dissatisfied with his life in the United Kingdom and resolved to relocate to the United States where he would subsequently reside for 21 years. The impact of his acquaintances, who were already living in the US, played a key role in shaping this decision. Upon his arrival in the "land of opportunities" Ibironke initially secured employment with Burns before eventually joining the ranks of the FBI. However, a profound spiritual calling prompted him to step away from his law enforcement career and pursue a different path. Consequently, he achieved remarkable prosperity as a vendor of electronic goods.

He owned a store in Orange County, California, which was predominantly inhabited by white individuals with no black residents to be found. Engaging in regular travels to Japan, he acquired electronics to resell, ultimately becoming the sole African American in Orange County to prosper in this industry. Before departing Nigeria, Ibironke entered into matrimony with a Nigerian woman and they had two children together before he migrated to the United Kingdom. During his tenure in the United States, he wedded an American woman hailing from Texas and they had four children of their own.

The man discloses that the woman departed from his side when he became unwell. He discloses that he spent 14 months in the hospital where doctors were unable to diagnose the origin of his ailment. Several Nigerians, upon witnessing his condition, speculated that it may have been a spiritual assault and urged him to pursue treatment in Nigeria

Ibironke's journey led him back to Nigeria empty-handed. Despite his family's efforts to secure his admission to a psychiatric hospital, they ultimately left him behind. Eventually, he found himself in a correctional facility, where a compassionate man of faith took notice of his plight. This kind-hearted individual, after reviewing his records, decided to return him to the psychiatric hospital. Unfortunately, as time went on, no one bothered to check on Ibironke again, and he eventually found himself seeking shelter under a bridge.

Ibironke declares his resolute intent to return to the US to seek out a better future for himself.
