The woman who was murdered and her body dismembered in a temporary rental in Roysambu, Nairobi, has been named as Rita Waeni Muendo, a 20-year-old student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Jkuat).

On the night of January 14th, before her tragic demise, Ms. Muendo departed from her aunt's residence in Syokimau to rendezvous with a companion, as stated by Dr. Lilian Mutea, the family representative. At 5 am the next day, an anonymous individual, assumed to be the perpetrator, sent a message to Ms Muendo's father, insisting on a ransom of Sh500,000 to ensure her safe release. The family has verified the deceased's identity and believes that she was murdered by her abductor, who then proceeded to extort money from them.

It has been claimed that the assailant may have rendered the victim unconscious and then proceeded to dismember her in the bathroom of the rented property. An undisclosed source says in a statement, "There is a strong belief that the individual responsible for this crime drugged the woman before ending her life. This act took place within the confines of the rented residence." The suspect successfully eluded detection by employing fraudulent documents and a phone number registered under a female alias.

He was tracked to Ruaka sub-County in the days leading up to the incident, eventually relocating to the Roysambu area just hours before the gruesome killing. According to Kasarani sub-County police boss Joseph Muriuki, three individuals, including the one apprehended at JKIA, had been arrested by Wednesday.
