Kenyans at Odds Over Uhuru's Private Airport at Northlands City
Kenyans are divided over a photograph of a private airport located in the centre of Northlands City which is linked to former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Google satellites reveal the presence of Northlands Aerodrome, an airport situated at coordinates 1°11'29"S 36°58'42"E. This domestic airport features a well-operational runway that can cater to private planes and jets. Adjacent to one end of the runway stands an unmarked structure, which is presumed to be a hangar.
Some Kenyans praise the former President for owning his own airport, seeing it as a valuable investment. Social media user Martor Muriithi notes that this airport is a significant step forward for the Kenyatta family and the Northlands project. However, there are also concerns raised by some Kenyans about the management of the airport as it is situated on private land. There are worries that a small group of people might exploit the private airport to illegally bring in unauthorized goods to the country.
“In many developed countries, private citizens have such runways, as long as it is regulated,” he notes, adding that private enterprises would be willing to pay substantial amounts for its utilization.
The vast expanse of Northlands City, located in Ruiru, spans 11,000 acres and extends from City Cabanas to Ruiru via the Eastern bypass. When finished, this development will include various amenities such as businesses, factories, schools, and residential areas. It remains uncertain whether the Kenyatta family will grant Northlands City residents access to the private airport.
