Kalonzo Touts Sifuna for Future Foreign Affairs Position
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has expressed confidence in Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna's potential to excel as a Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary in the future.
Kalonzo has commended Sifuna for his remarkable ability to communicate, comparing it to his own and the late Robert Ouko's. He stresses the significance of presenting a favourable image of the nation internationally. Kalonzo expresses his firm belief that, if he were to have the chance to appoint the next Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary, he would choose Sifuna because of his credentials and legal acumen.
Kalonzo praises Sifuna for being a bold speaker and encourages fellow leaders to adopt Sifuna's straightforwardness and bravery in their own communication. This endorsement from Kalonzo comes at a time when there are ongoing talks about succession within the Azimio la Umoja coalition, with different leaders positioning themselves for future leadership positions. Despite the uncertain future of Raila Odinga's political career, Kalonzo and other Azimio leaders, including those from other parties, persist in expressing their aspirations for leadership roles in the upcoming elections.
On February 13, Prof Makau Mutua, one of Raila Odinga's trusted allies and a spokesperson for the Azimio movement, voiced his support for Kalonzo as the most suitable candidate for the 2027 presidential bid. He encouraged others to accept Kalonzo's candidacy. The Azimio coalition is currently strategizing to assemble a strong team to challenge President William Ruto in the upcoming 2027 elections. Despite speculations about Raila's intentions, the Azimio leader has clarified that he has no reservations about endorsing Kalonzo for the presidency in the future. He, however, emphasized the importance of patience stating that he his still actively involved in politics.
