Kenyans residing in Australia have come together in a remarkable display of solidarity to support the family of a young woman who passed away in a car accident.

Sheilah Jeptum, 21, who had been living in New South Wales for the past year, died tragically in a head-on collision in early February. Deeply moved by the sudden loss, the Kenyan community in Australia has united to offer assistance to Sheilah's grieving family. They have managed to raise over Sh 5 million through various fundraising initiatives including events and online campaigns spearheaded by a committee led by Tabitha Chepkwony.

These funds cover the expenses of repatriating Sheilah's body from Australia, allowing her family to lay her to rest in her home country. The outpouring of support extends beyond financial contributions with Kenyans abroad contacting the family and offering heartfelt condolences and emotional solace during this difficult time. This collective effort comforts Sheilah's family and highlights the determined spirit of community and compassion within the Kenyan diaspora.

Additionally, the fundraising efforts have also extended to support two other Kenyan students who tragically lost their lives in Perth. The incident occurred early on a busy highway in Perth, Western Australia, when the vehicle they were travelling in lost control, veered off the road and collided with a tree. The subsequent impact ignited the car, engulfing it in flames. Emergency services arrived at the scene on Tonkin Highway near the Albany Highway exit in Gosnells at around 2.10 am and discovered the burning vehicle.
