Ruto Rallies Diaspora to Invest in Nation's Economic Transformation
Kenyan President William Ruto has implored the diaspora community to actively contribute to the nation's economic development.
During a Diaspora Tech Investment Expo and Engagement held at the Cobb Galleria Center in Atlanta, Georgia, the President emphasized the pivotal role the diaspora can play in propelling Kenya to greater heights. President Ruto, who is currently in the United States for a state visit at the invitation of his American counterpart President Joe Biden, reiterates the advanced stage of Kenya's economic transformation. He highlights the pull effect of investment opportunities across various sectors, urging the diaspora to seize these prospects and join forces in driving the nation's progress.
Recognizing the significance of the diaspora's contributions, the President pledges to establish a dedicated diaspora board tasked with facilitating and safeguarding investments made by Kenyans living abroad. This initiative aims to provide a structured framework for channelling resources and expertise back into the nation. Accompanied by First Lady Rachel Ruto, cabinet secretaries, principal secretaries, and high-ranking government officials, President Ruto today addressed the gathered Kenyans, emphasizing the vital role they can play as catalysts for economic development. The diaspora registration and mapping efforts currently underway seek to harness the skills and expertise of Kenyans abroad, enabling their productive employment and increased earnings to fuel the country's growth.
During his visit to Atlanta, President Ruto also underscored the pressing need for a fair financial system that provides developing countries with concessional development financing. Such resources, he noted, can be channelled towards strengthening economies, combating the effects of climate change, and promoting free market principles. President Ruto is scheduled to meet with US Congressmen on Wednesday to delve into the profound impact of poverty and debt on democracy in Africa. This dialogue aims to foster a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by developing nations and explore collaborative solutions.
