Kisumu Love Triangle Ends in Tragedy, Man and Girlfriend Detained for Alleged Murder

Martin Olage May 30, 2024

The Kisumu court has granted a 14-day custody order for two suspects, Cecil Wilson Omondi and Ashley Jemima Atieno, accused of being involved in the death of 22-year-old Vince Juma on Monday.

This extended detention period will enable detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) at Kondele Police Station to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Vince's demise. The court's decision is based on a miscellaneous criminal application filed by investigator Naboth Otieno Ondoro from the DCI Kondele Police Station. Ondoro states that the two suspects, who are in a relationship, were apprehended on May 28, 2024, after evidence emerged indicating their potential involvement in Vince's murder, which occurred around 10 pm on the fateful day.

He emphasizes that retaining the suspects in custody would facilitate the determination of the cause of Vince's death and ensure their safety as the public remains outraged by their alleged actions, and their immediate release could put their lives at risk. According to Ondoro, releasing the suspects on bail could jeopardize the ongoing investigation into Vince's mysterious death. A thorough post-mortem examination is yet to be conducted, and detectives require more time to gather evidence and uncover the truth behind the incident.

Senior Principal Magistrate Robert Oanda of Winam Court has ordered the respondents to be remanded at Kondele Police Station for 14 days, granting the DCI sufficient time to conclude their investigation. The events leading to Vince's demise reportedly began when she confronted her ex-boyfriend Mr Omondi, aged 30, at a local mini-mart. A neighbour's account suggests that Vince insisted on accompanying Mr Omondi to his rented flat, but he refused. Upon reaching the entrance, Mr Omondi quickly locked the gate from the inside, preventing Vince from entering. However, a neighbour inadvertently allowed Vince to enter the building, where Mr Omondi was with his 20-year-old new girlfriend, Ashley, a student at Riat Institute of Advanced Technology.

A commotion ensued, with a scream and a subsequent loud noise reported. Alarmingly, Mr Omondi promptly called for a taxi and rushed the wounded individual to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital. Tragically, Vince was pronounced deceased upon arrival at the medical facility. Her body was subsequently transported to the hospital's morgue. Initial police inquiries suggest that Vince sustained grave head wounds and potentially succumbed to significant blood loss.

Authorities are working diligently to determine whether she fell from the apartment's second-story balcony after being pushed or if she intentionally leapt to her demise.
