Gunmen Leave Clues Behind After Killing Businessman in Parklands
A businessman was fatally shot by armed individuals outside his home in Nairobi's Parklands neighbourhood on Tuesday night.
The incident occurred around 9 PM on Kusi Lane as Sagar Panara, 36, was returning from a business meeting at a local members' club. The attack was carried out by two assailants on a motorbike who appeared to have been following him. Panara, who had served as a manager at an IT solutions firm for 14 years, was rushed to Aga Khan Hospital with a bullet wound just below his neck. Sadly, he was pronounced dead upon arrival. The police recovered two spent cartridges from the crime scene, providing initial evidence for their investigation. The murder has taken on a complex dimension due to the discovery of leaflets left by the assailants.
These notes, some of which were placed around Panara's neck, bore the chilling message: "One Panara down. Vacate Narok land... Narok land belongs to Maasai." This has led investigators to explore the possibility that the killing may be connected to a land dispute in Narok, a region known for its fertile soil and agricultural potential. Detectives from the Gigiri Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have begun a thorough investigation, scouring the area for CCTV footage that might shed light on the events leading up to the shooting. While no suspects have been identified yet, the police are pursuing several theories regarding the motive behind the murder.
The victim's family has confirmed receiving threats related to the land in question, lending credence to the theory of a land dispute as the primary motive. Ravi Panara, the deceased's brother, states that these threats had been ongoing and appeared to be serious. However, investigators are also considering the possibility that the leaflets could be a diversionary tactic, masking an alternative motive for the crime. Nairobi police chief Adamson Bungei has described the murder as cold-blooded and assures the public that additional experts have joined the investigation to ensure justice is served.
“We are speaking to the family to establish if there was any controversy as the leaflets suggest," said the detective.
The police are expected to visit the disputed land in Narok as part of their ongoing inquiry. As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information about the murder to come forward. Meanwhile, the Parklands community and Panara's family are left to mourn the loss of a respected member, hoping for swift justice in the wake of this senseless act of violence.
